On the 14-09-2016 I had the opportunity to visit Hashima - Gunkanjima (Battle ship Island), Kyushu, Japan 14-09-2016. The old Mitsubishi mining company coal mining island 4.5 km west of Nagasaki on the southern main island of Japan (Kyushu). The island was mined from 1810 to 1974 when it was closed Over time it had a big city above it with school and shop and home to more than 5300 people. The island is now a UNESCO World Heritage Cultural property and given a little bit of notoriety used in the 2012 in the James Bond 007 movie Sky Fall.
The iconic look from this angle is why Hashima has become known as Gunkanjima (Battle Ship Island).
Some parts of Gunkanjima have been hit pretty hard over the years with the weather taking it's toll. with the many Typhoons that pass through the region.
Nagasaki more known for the Atomic bomb dropped on it towards the end of the second world war also has a rich ship building history as well both big and small. The Mitsubishi Ship building company being one of the biggest in the world and laying claim to some of the the new luxury ocean liners and cargo ships.
