Some WA competitors made the long journey across the Nullarbor for a mixed weekend competing in the National Capital Rally, round 3 of the Australian Rally Championships and the second round of the Asia Pacific Rally Championships.
The team who had the worst luck for the event was WA resident New Zealander Mike Young who had a brake failure coming in to a bend at high speed and rolled the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X very heavily. Both Mike and his NZ navigator Malcolm Read were OK but the car was to badly damaged so they turned there hand to media and gave the team at Asia Pacific TV a hand.
Daymon Nicoli jumped in the navigators seat next to east coast competitor Chris Higgs in a Subaru Impreza WRX for the ARC component of the event to have a relatively smooth run and finished tenth in the ARC part.
While the Maximum Motorsport team had two car's entered in both the ARC and APRC sections of the event. The Auto One Subaru Impreza WRX of Brad Markovic - Tony Feaver and the O'Dowd Transport/Truck Wholesale Subaru Impreza WRX of John O'Dowd - Ken Sheil.
Brad and Tony had a very successful weekend taking out fifth and first Australian and production based car in the APRC component of the event and sixth in the Australian Rally Championship part in a car that didn't sound right all weekend. They did well to get the result they got in an ill performing car.
John and Ken had a steady run with no major problems to my knowledge in what were some very challenging and tricky conditions at times to finish in tenth in the APRC and tenth in the ARC.
All will be competing this weekend - Sunday 4th June in round three of the WA Rally Championships in the MRF Tyre's Boddington Rally run by the Light Car Club of WA.
Daymon Nicoli will switch back to his normal ride next to Razvan Vlad in the MAXRally.com.au Ford Fiesta ST while Mike Young will swap sides and jump in to the navigators seat next to Andy Van Kann in the Trade Hire Toyota Corolla TE27.
The two Maximum Motorsport cars will be joined by Dean Herridge who will be dusting of the cobwebs to drive a third Subaru normally driven by Graham Iddles who had a date clash.
